Layout Details
The current Panhandle is a testbed layout. It is my first uses of N scale and DCC technologies. I intend to use C/MRI devices for turnout and signal control and a small layout will prove a platform for testing various systems.
- Layout Type - currently L shaped switching layout. Phase 2 adds a second L for continuous running
- Benchwork - open grid tabletop with a plywood and homasote base. Phase 2 will use extruded polystrene for the base
- Track - Atlas Code 55 flex track
- Turnouts - Atlas Code 55 #5
- Turnout control - manual ground throws in yards and sidings, Circuitron Turtoise switch machines for main line turnouts
- Throttles - currently homemade PWM walkaround - will replace with Digitrax Zephyr system
Construction
The benchwork is in place and the track work is being test fit.
The first train operates on the main, the PH-3 heading west.
